About

Wild Maine Seaweed was founded in 2025 by Paul Mullen, whose life has always been shaped by the ocean. Paul grew up on the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland, a place where seaweed has supported nutrition and agriculture for generations. That heritage—working with the sea, respecting its rhythms, and using its resources responsibly—forms the foundation of our commitment to Sustainability.

After moving to the United States, Paul earned a degree in Marine Engineering and a master’s degree in Marine Resources Management, deepening his understanding of coastal ecosystems and how they can be stewarded with care. He also represented the USA Men’s National Rugby Team in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and in more than 40 games, strengthening his connection to the country he now calls home.

Wild Maine Seaweed brings all of this together: heritage, purpose, and a dedication to our three pillars—Sustainability, Education, and Innovation. We harvest Ascophyllum nodosum and other native Maine seaweeds from the cold, clean waters of the North Atlantic. Our low‑impact harvesting methods protect the shoreline and preserve the health of these tidal ecosystems, ensuring that this resource remains abundant for future generations.

We believe seaweed is one of the most powerful yet underused tools in modern agriculture. Through Education, we aim to help farmers and gardeners understand the value of this natural resource. Through Innovation, we explore new ways to unlock its potential. And through Sustainability, we ensure that every step we take honors the ocean that makes it all possible.

From the North Atlantic to your soil, Wild Maine Seaweed is rooted in respect for the ocean and a belief in its ability to nourish the land.
